In industrial and process measurements, it is often desirable to mount the computer in an office or other location remote from the process, either for protection from harsh environments, to avoid operator interference or for other reasons. Where the signals to be measured are in widely separated locations, or different buildings.
A remote configuration for the data acquisition is normally used. These cuts down the amount of field wiring needed, and can often eliminate the expense of individual transmitters on low-level signals.
